Breaking News: Format Rotation Announced

by Ed ~ June 4th, 2010.

It looks like the post-rotation format has been officially announced. Take a look at the official announcement at Pokemon.com.

Here’s what the new format will include.

  • Diamond & Pearl—Majestic Dawn
  • Diamond & Pearl—Legends Awakened
  • Diamond & Pearl—Stormfront
  • Platinum
  • Platinum—Rising Rivals
  • Platinum—Supreme Victors
  • Platinum—Arceus
  • Rumble
  • HeartGold & SoulSilver
  • HS—Unleashed
  • HS Trainer Kit

What do you think about that? Personally, I’m disappointed. I was hoping for more of a clean slate to start working on new decks. The metagame will shift, but it doesn’t look to be a major change.

I am more surprised than disappointed. I thought the logical rotation was Platinum forward. After reading the announcement, I do recall last year's announcement mentioning the 9 – 13 sets per year, so I guess if we were thinking it would have been obvious.

Can't wait to see what the next 4 sets brings us now.

I hadn't heard about the 9-13 bit before. I'm surprised that in all this speculation, I don't recall hearing any mention of that. If that's their plan, then this makes sense. I prefer a solid plan, anyway. I like how M:TG does it, but that's a whole can of worms that doesn't need opening.

    Its not shocking news.

I figured that it would be Pt on, but there was a decent shot it could be la on (or something like that, since la hasn't been in the format the entire 3 years).

I was kinda shocked that it came so early, I thought we wouldn't know until July or something.

Of course Im mad at the rotation, I think everyone would be no matter what the rotation was. Keeping Uxie in the format will make things a little more crazier.

SP will lose nothing except maybe the 1 or 2 roseannes that they play. Other decks will either have to rely on ninetails or uxie to function.

What the pokemon.com didnt mention was the the POP series. Are all those going to be rotated out? They didnt mention that they will be legal so I gUess they are gone too. If POP 8 was still in we would still have NM and roseanne's.

But the rotation does leave in some good cards like call energy and warp point.

You know what, they list Rumble, HS Trainer Kit, and Black Star Promos DP22 on and HGSS01, so I am thinking the omission of POP is intentional. Also, they stopped sending POP cards as player rewards for league participation which further supports that the POP cards are out.

Maybe they messed up on the announcement, but I am not holding my breath.

very odd rotation lol me and omar reasoned why it was picked

My 4 luxray will shoot up in value around regionals and states next year I predict. Given that this game generally experiences growth and this will continue to be BDIF demand should far exceed supply at this current price. Very happy other SP cards will rise in value too good thing i horded up plenty of reverse holos of all of them

  • Ed

I think you're right, but Luxray can't really go too much higher, can it?

Also, I think Uxie X will bump up a bit, too, since it'll be one of the main draw engines.
