Pretty good, a nice sports weekend. We had the Pro Bowl, the NHL All Star Game, the finals of the Australian Open, the Royal Rumble, and even some Free UFC on Fox.

I watched that UFC on Saturday. There is no doubt that it takes a man much tougher than me to step into the Octagon, but on Saturday it seemed like UFC is just an excuse for two dudes to cuddle in the corner of a cage.

Those are big men, I wouldn’t be calling them gay.

I didn’t call them gay, I implied it. Plus, they always wear those bright T-shirts, you can’t wear that many pastel colors without some questions. Let’s get onto the article before I say more things that I will regret.

A big hello to all you OHKOers out there. This is Pikkdogs here with a tournament report that covers 2 City Championships.

This past Saturday I went down about 40 miles south of my apartment to Toledo, Oh for a City Championship.

I decided that I had enough of sucking with Donphan and Dragons, so I decided to go and suck with another deck. On the Friday before the tournament I asked my Facebook friends what I should run, and the first suggestion was 6 Corners. If you don’t know, 6 Corners is a hodgepodge deck of a bunch of Legendary Pokemon. The goal of the deck is to run a lot of different Pokemon so that you always have weakness over your opponent. It is a deck that is fairly fast and versatile enough to have a great chance against any deck in the format. After throwing it together Friday night, I decided that this wouldn’t be the worst deck choice, so I decided to run it.

Here is a list that is similar to my deck, it is not the exact list that I ran that day, but it is close and reflects more…

I say report and a half for because I only took notes on half my matches from Saturday, mainly because I did so bad and I was getting so frustrated I just stopped taking notes. I did a lot better on Sunday, but nowhere near cut but at least it was a major improvement from Saturday. It was also a horrible weekend for sports as well. The Detroit Lions undefeated streak came to an end, the Detroit Tigers got eliminated, and Michigan lost to Michigan State. The Red Wings won their game however, so it wasn’t too bad. I will start the article with Saturday’s Battle Road, which took place in Ann Arbor, MI. I was happy to see an event in Ann Arbor, only because I live 15 minutes outside of A-squared and it is arguably the greatest city in Michigan. The event was held at my favorite store down there, Get Your Game On. The only downside was the venue was very small, so small it was cramped and people actually got turned away because we went…

Because of that, I thought that I wouldn’t write much, so I didn’t take any notes. This is all from (my poor) memory.

Here’s a micro report from The Source Comics and Games on Oct. 15th. I knew that there was another tourney the next day, so I thought that if Ava was done playing, I might drop. I didn’t want to drop if there was a chance I could still win, but in the back of my mind, I almost hoped I’d hit that 2 loss mark early. We had a party to attend as a family, so it would be good to get home a bit earlier.

Juniors had 8 players. Aiden wasn’t there with his Beartic deck which has beaten Ava’s Donphan deck in the 2 previous events. Unfortunately, Paul decided that Beartic was the clear best deck (as it had won the previous 2 events) and decided to play it. I think Ava lost to Paul and forgot about Exoskeleton to lose another one. In the end, she snuck in at 4th place and…

So I know you OHKO’ers are knee-deep in Battle Roads right now, battling against all sorts of decks—not just the Reshiram/Typhlosions, Yanmega/Magnezones and Stage 1′s you’ve become familiar with since Worlds, but brand new decks too, like Zekrom/Tornadus, toolboxy Mew decks, Yanmega/Cincinno/Weavile, Gothitelle, Beartic/Vileplume/whatever—all kinds of builds you hadn’t thought of, but yearn to try. But how can you? I mean, you can’t just call up the guys every other day, asking to get together to test out your crazy Wobbuffet-donk deck whenever you please, right? We all have lives—school and college just started up, we’re all working hard to make financial ends meet, and Dancing with the Stars has reclaimed our Monday and Tuesday nights. Personally, it took me like 2 whole weeks to set a series of forest fires in northern Minnesota with the goal of sending a blinding cloud of smoke at Pikkdogs’ Michigan apartment. Let’s face it—we don’t always have the time to playtest like we should.

The Pokémon Company International has just created a new platform—Pokémon TCG Online, or PTCGO—that could make it much easier for us players to build and test decks. It also promises to attract a whole new…

It was a weird list. It worked, though it probably shouldn’t have. I didn’t test it much either. This time, I didn’t even touch the deck, and had it built for me. It was Yanmega Magnezone with Jirachi, but this time, I ran a 2-1-2 Kingdra line. Here’s the report. I remember some and some I don’t. It was a looooong day.

Round 1: VS Mike Juhl playing Whirlipede(I think that’s what it was)/Roserade

The deck was all about poisoning, but he just couldn’t get set up. Multiple Yanmegas allowed for a swarm he couldn’t seem to overcome, as I catchered his basics and one-shot them with Sonicboom. Relatively easy. GG man.

1-0

Round 2: VS ??(forgot name, sorry) playing Scolipede/Gothitelle/Darmanitan

He didn’t get set up much, and I took 4 prizes with Yanmega without having to play a single evening supporter. Then, when I was a prize away, I intentionally waited 9 turns to get 9 energy stacked on Magnezone to do 900 damage to his Sigalyff(whatever this thing is called, the dream eater thing). It was 10 away from dying.…

Alrighty guys, here we go. MN’s second Battle Roads of the season was on Oct 9th at Outpost 2000 and Beyond. I’d say we had a better day than the previous weekend, so

You mean you didn’t totally scrub out, misplay for a game loss, try to blame it on the judge, and barely make 50/50 on the day?

What the? Who let Pedro in here?

Okay, just calm down. Deep breaths. If I don’t believe in him, he doesn’t exist. Exhale. Okay, I’m good. Where was I?

Right, Battle Roads, Coon Rapids, MN. There wasn’t as many people at this one. That meant that there were only 5 rounds and no kickers. Ava and I arrived a tiny bit later than we should have, but it didn’t really matter. Things probably got underway about 1PM.

Round 1: Vs the other Ed with ZPSTT
I think Ed started with an active Thundurus. I thought he was probably playing the same thing he did the previous week, so I opted to start Pachirisu active and put Shaymin on the bench to prevent the Donk. I had Seeker in hand, so I could still use the power if I…

Hi everyone in the OneHitKO universe, Joel here with a battle road report. Yesterday, I attended the Battle Road in Hartland, MI. I had the option of going with fellow OneHitKO writers Mark and Pikkdogs to Toledo, but I opted for Hartland mainly because it was 20 minutes away from my house. There were 26 masters, 5 rounds with a top 4 cut. I decided to run Donphan/Yanmega/Zoroark/Tornadus for this tournament.

Round 1 vs Jeff M. with Volbeat/Illumise.

I was happy to know I was playing against Jeff the first round, because he is both a good player and fun to talk to. I go first and start with a lone Tornadus. I collector for 2 Yanma and a Phanpy, then attach a DCE to Tornadus and pass. He goes, and plays a lost remover, slowing me down, then proceeds to attach a grass to his Illumise, collectors for 3 Volbeat and attacks. Luckily he gets only 1 heads. I use a switch to get Tornadus out of active and promote Phanpy. I then evolve to Donphan, attach a fighting and use a pluspower and earthquake for the first prize. He promotes another Illumise, flips…

It was MN’s first BR of 4, so I expected a good turnout. I didn’t expect a big group of players to come down from Fargo, ND, so that was cool. They helped just put us over the top, so kickers went to the 3rd and 4th place finishers.

I usually try to take notes on my matches. Really, this is usually like 1 or two lines per match. Maybe I’ll write the name of my opponent, a couple major Pokemon in the deck, and the outcome. If it was more interesting, I might put something further. Well, I did all that, then I was busy on Sunday and went out of town on Monday through Wednesday. I’m finally getting to type up my report, and I can’t find my notes. All this leadup is just my excuse for having a short and most likely pointless report.

I played Zed PS. Ever since I heard Pokemandan call it that, I liked the name. I think “Zed” is a very absurd name for the letter Z. Also, adding Tornadus doesn’t quite make…

Sure, well if you read Pikkdog’s article about a week ago, first we apologize, and second you would know that all of the Michigan and Indiana players got together and kicked his a-

Hey, you can’t say that word here.

Hello fellow OHKOers, This is Mark back with my Battle Road report for the opening to our new 2011 – 2012 season!

Myself, accompanied by a group of friends went to the South Bend and Angola Battle Roads in Indiana. Initially I was gonna back out of going due to monetary issues. However, thanks to my great friends I was able to get things together! On the way there we got hit by traffic from the Michigan State Game and Notre Dame game. We actually got to the tournament 10 minutes late expecting game losses but we luckily got there just in time to register! PHEW!!

I played Stage One Rush, also known as “Mega Dragonzord”, which features Yanmega, Donphan, and Zoroark. I also played 2 Mew Primes as techs along with 4 Rainbow Energies for the Gothitelle match up. I had been playing this deck pretty much since Nationals and decided to stick with it due to its great coverage and excellent match ups.

As the tournament started we were informed about the new Championship Point structure and given news that Regional championships would take place twice during the season. For the record I’m very found…

As you probably all know this past weekend was the first weekend of fall Battle Roads, hence the first weekend of the new tournament season. Unfortunately there were no tournaments in my home state of Michigan, so I had to travel to Indiana to hit them up. There were 2, one in South Bend and one in Angola. Fortunately. the Michigan player base is full of a lot of cool and nice people who were willing to do the traveling with me. So Saturday morning I got up early and traveled to South Bend, In with friends Joe, Rob, and Frank. We also met our buddies Bohdan and Mark at the tournament, and we all stayed the night on Saturday so we would be at a good spot to hit the BR on the next day.

So our crew was able to make it to South Bend with no trouble, we were able to use back roads to sneak around the game day traffic (our tournament organizer likes to schedule our tournaments right next…

I feel that we got a lot of cool different information last week, and it was generally a great thing for the site. We would like to thank all of our writers that were in action last week, you all did a great job. Hopefully in the future you will be able to drop by and give us another article. Ed and I would also like to ask all of our readers to tell us what you thought about Guest Writer week. Please tell us if you think it was a good thing for the site by placing your thoughts in the comment box.

Players from all over the world are coming together to compete and share their passion for the game they love – the Pokémon TCG. At the end of the weekend, a new champion will be crowned in each division as usual. However, this year things are going to be much different with the Last Chance Qualifier, Worlds, and more. Are you excited? If you’re not, here’s why you should be!

To kick things off, we have the LCQ, more commonly referred to as the Grinder. Of course the big change this year is that the tournament format will be single elimination best 2/3 matches, instead of Swiss rounds. Plain and simple, if you lose one match you are eliminated, and you keep playing until there are about eight players remaining. Although there have been some complaints about the change, the best 2/3 format should favor skilled players and reduce the luck factor, so it seems to be a positive change. Most importantly, if you lose a game on the first turn, you still have a…

Before we get to the article, this is just a heads up that my 100th post celebration contest is still going on. Just write an email and send it to me at pikkdogs@teamomar.com, and tell me what you like or don’t like about the site. If you do that, you will be entered in a contest to win 1 www.onehitko.com t-shirt. There will be 2 winners, so make sure to register by the 25th of July. Now back to the article, here are some polite things to do at a tourney.

Etiquette is a french word for a small card or sign. It comes from when the French Monarchy threw big parties at the palace of Versailles. The palace guests would do rude things like run on the lawn and…

Overall, there was a surprising shift in the metagame where Vilegar clearly outweighed SP in the amount of play with a few other decks sneaking their way in. To whoever I met on the day, thanks a lot for making the day so enjoyable and I hope to see you all around the UK next season! Speaking of next season, PokeClass will be all about HGSS-On as of next week meaning more deck analysis, options for decks and there will be a return of my Deck Surgery Mini Episodes! Make sure you subscribe and check back next week for all the new HGSS stuff, exciting!

I wasn’t really into this format so I didn’t prepare for the tournament very much. Instead, I spent most of my time with the HGSS-on format. Before the new rules came into effect I played Uxie Donk. I loved playing Uxie Donk because it is a deck that requires a lot of skill and experience, and has a good matchup against SP decks. But because…

But enough about me, let’s go on with the article!

I decided to run Luxchomp for this event because that was the deck I felt most comfortable with. Luxchomp has an excellent track record and hasn’t really disappointed me. I’ll post my deck list at the end of the article. For this event, there were 76 Masters, with 7 rounds and a top 16 cut.

A lot of people are saying that this is the worst set ever, while I don’t know Pokemon TCG history from Base Set to Diamond and Pearl, I do know that there are not many good cards in this set. There are 2 good trainer cards, maybe 2 good Pokemon, and a handful of good re-prints; thats it. No good Primes, Level X’s, or Legend Cards! These reasons make this set not hugely impactful, but it also does make it one of the best sets ever for Pre-Releases.

Guide to Winning a Call of Legends Pre-Release

Consistency

This set is full of re-prints of supporters that help in consistency including; Proffesor Oaks New Theory, Copy Cat, Professor Elms Training Method, Sages Training, and Cheerleaders Cheer. When you combine this with good search/draw Pokemon like Smeargle, Mawile, Pidgey, Ninetails, Relincanth, Skarmory, and Pachirisu; you will get quite the consistent deck. This means that if you get just a couple good attacking Pokemon, you should be able to get them…
