Double Cities Report with Hydreigon plus Hydreigon Deck Analysis

Thursday, December 6th, 2012

Hey OneHitKO people, it’s getting to be time where you guys need to see another article, so I thought I may as well do a tournament report like Pikkdogs used to do (Except these will be somewhat successful reports) even though I usually don’t write reports (Although the purpose of the reports are more to show you more about playing the deck), and then so you have something interesting to read about I’ll do a deck analysis of the deck I believe is the BDIF of this format, Hydreigon/Darkrai. Anyway, I feel like getting this started, so here are the reports:

Saturday, November 17th: Cameron Park, CA

I wake up early, make my decklist, and wait for the people who I promised a ride to to show up. Once they both get here, we start the two hour drive to Cameron Park.

When we get there we are greeted by cabd from the SixPrizes forums, and I play some fun games with the people I came with. It turns out that 15 Seniors show up, 1 short of a Top 4. I wait a bit for pairings and I am already paired against someone I’d rather not play early.

How to Counter the Metagame

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

Hey, it’s coolestman22 again. I’ve been meaning to write another article for a while, but no good ideas for an article had really came to me in a while. I finally had an idea, so here is an article on how to tech for your matchups and what cards to tech in to your deck to make your matchup against X deck better.

First of all, by using any of these techs against one deck, I want people to understand that it might make other matchups worse for them. If you devote three spots of your deck to play against X deck, you’ll have less room for techs against Y deck, or less room for more consistency cards to help seal the matchup against Z deck.

Let’s start with the deck that’s won 30 Battle Roads in Masters alone already, Darkrai variants, and why not put the deck that shares a weakness with it alongside.

Darkrai/Zekeels

First off, Darkrai and most cards in Zekeels has a fighting weakness, so we can group them together into one category, and it’s also something we can exploit with a handful of cards, such as:

Terrakion NVI

Terrakion NVI is the most popular …

Review of Dark EXplorers and the cards that could be in it.

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Introduction

I guess I’ll do the Pikkdogs intro by saying “A big hello to all you OHKOers out there”. It’s me, coolestman22, with a review of the cards that might be in Dark Explorers that are receiving some sort of hype, or I just personally feel that are cool cards. Not all of these will be in meta decks, but not all cool cards from other sets are either. I’ll explain these cards so everyone knows what they do, but most of these cards you should know about by now. If you have any questions, please tell me in the comment section, I’m open to any feedback.

Kyogre-EX

Kyogre-EX is a water-type basic from Hail Blizzard that never got released in Next Destinies, but it wasn’t that good anyway so it wasn’t too big a deal. It will get a shot at play now, so let’s see what it does.

Kyogre-EX is a water-type with 170 HP, which is good but mediocre for an EX, an awful x2 weakness to lightning, no resistance, and a hefty but Heavy Ball searchable four retreat cost, and of course the EX rule. For WC it does 30 and you have the option of switching it with one of your benched Pokemon. This is OK, but it’s not something you should be basing a deck around.

The other attack is Dual Splash, which for WWC does 50 to 2 of your opponent’s benched Pokemon. This doesn’t sound good at first, but when you think about it it’s actually a decent attack, because you can kill 2 Tynamos with it early game, if it’s set up early enough. This means to set up 2 Eelektriks you either have to go first and evolve them all or bench four Tynamo and have 2 killed, then get your 2 Eelektriks out.

The question is “is it worth it to set up a T2 Kyogre with whatever just to have it killed by a Zekrom later?
